SOUND & VISION
Here, John Byrne reveals a few of his cultural favourites
A FAVOURITE ARTIST
Albrecht Dürer, the German painter from 16th Century. He has a selfportrait which I think is a miracle, it’s wonderful, he has these golden ringlets and a little beard. It’s an amazing work. It really is an amazing work.
A FAVOURITE WRITER
JD Salinger for Catcher In The Rye. I found a copy of it in the lobby of the Glasgow art school, the first nine pages were missing. I was intrigued. I read that. It’s wonderful. But I’ve never read the first nine pages.
A FAVOURITE TV SHOW
Line of Duty. Martin Compston is magnificent. And my wife Jeanine is watching Call My Agent which she loves.
A FAVOURITE MUSICIAN
Bob Dylan. When he got the Nobel Prize for literature but sent a band to sing for him, and took his time to send a proper response to winning – it was brilliant.
