National accolade for Gaelic singer
Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis has told of her pride after being named a fellow of Scotland’s prestigious national academy of science and letters.
The singer and musician, 42, who grew up in the Outer Hebrides, is among 87 people elected by the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) for 2021.
Fowlis, who in 2012 found fame singing the theme for the Golden Globe-winning animated film Brave, is recognised by the RSE for her contributions to the creative and performing arts, her outstanding achievements as a performer and broadcaster, and as an ambassador for Gaelic traditions and culture.
She said: “I very am honoured to become an RSE fellow, alongside such a distinguished list of individuals.”
