Deja flu? Doctors baffled by mystery virus that just won’t go away

“Ten-Week Cough Mystery,” read the headline as The Post recorded in 1971 news that now seems all too familiar.

“A 10-week cough is sweeping

Dundee. It’s got GPs puzzled,” the article continued.

“A virus is believed to be the cause. Once the cough sets in it drags on for around 10 weeks, sometimes there’s laryngitis with it ‘One of these odd things,’ a Dundee family doctor commented last night. ‘Young children don’t seem to be so much affected as children of school age and adults.’

“He agreed that the mild winter has had something to do with the persistenc­e of the virus.”
