Parliament recalled as a mark of respect

-

Political parties in Scotland suspended campaigning ahead of the Scottish elections as a mark of respect to Prince Philip.

The Scottish Parliament is to be recalled for only the sixth time in its history to allow politicians to pay tribute.

Holyrood is currently in recess until next month’s election but presiding officer Ken Macintosh said MSPs will be recalled tomorrow.

He said: “His Royal

Highness, Prince Philip, lived a life dedicated to duty and public service and his support for this institution was clear.

“This is why I have taken the decision to recall in order that we may take the time to pause, remember and pay tribute to his work.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon led Scottish tributes on Friday and expressed her sympathy to the Queen and the royal family.
