Dowell’s winner edges Canaries nearer the title

Norwich took another step closer to promotion when a Kieran Dowell free-kick secured a 1-0 win at Derby

The Championship leaders were dominant in the first half, but had some anxious moments in the second as County came close to snatching a point.

Goalkeeper Tim Krul made two good saves in the space of a minute, but almost gifted Derby a point in stoppage time when he lost the ball inside his area, but Graeme Shinnie could not take advantage.

Brentford kept their faint automatic promotion hopes alive with a thumping 5-0 victory at Preston.

Bryan Mbeumo and Marcus Forss scored in the first half, while Ivan Toney added a third, before subs Sergi Canos and Emiliano Marcondes both netted late on.

Goals from Alex Mowatt and Daryl Dike strengthened Barnsley’s play-off push in a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough.

Jamal Lowe scored twice as promotionchasing Swansea returned to form with a 3-0 win at Millwall.

Andre Ayew scored the Swans’ first goal in 500 minutes of football just before the break.

Arnaut Danjuma scored twice and made another goal as Bournemouth moved into the play-off places with a convincing 4-1 win at home to Coventry.

David Brooks and Dominic Solanke were also on target, with Matty James replying.

Blackburn striker Adam Armstrong struck a last-minute equaliser to snatch a 2-2 draw at Cardiff.

A mistake from Bluebirds keeper Alex Smithies allowed Armstrong to score his first goal for the visitors after Will Vaulks gave Mick McCarthy’s men the lead with a free-kick.

Joe Ralls looked to have sealed victory, but Armstrong completed his brace in the 90th minute.

Sheffield Wednesday were thrashed 4-1 at QPR.

Lyndon Dykes scored twice for QPR, with Stefan Johansen and Chris Willock also on the scoresheet, with Josh Windass replying.

Three goals in the last 10 minutes saw Wycombe’s survival hopes suffer a major setback as Luton claimed a 3-1 win at Adams Park.

Anis Mehmeti’s firsthalf penalty had put the hosts ahead, but Josh Knight saw red before the hour mark.

A long-range free-kick from sub George Moncur and further efforts from Kazenga LuaLua and Elijah Adebayo saw Luton emerge victorious.

Lukas Jutkiewicz netted both as Birmingham beat Stoke 2-0, while there were goalless draws between Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, as well as Huddersfield versus Rotherham.
