Recline and fail: Refund for couple’s faulty chairs

-

Elaine and Douglas Miller are quids in after Raw Deal helped secure a £1,700 refund for two faulty recliner chairs – even though the retailer went to the wall.

The Edinburgh couple had the electric-powered seats delivered by Harveys Furniture in July, 2019.

“We took out an extended five-year warranty that we were told covered everything including damage to the fabric and also the electric motor,” said Douglas.

“We also took out a finance plan over 30 months which we cleared off much earlier.”

When one of the chairs became faulty and it looked like the padding had fallen from the riser, Harveys sent out a repair man.

“He re-stuffed the riser part,” Douglas said. “This was OK for a few months, then we noticed the other chair had same problem.”

When Harveys announced in June last year that it would cease trading, Douglas tried to take the matter up with the finance company, but had no joy.

However, after he wrote to Raw Deal and we contacted Creation Finance, the £1,700 was soon back in his bank account. The company also agreed to cover the cost of the old chairs being disposed of.

Creation Finance said: “Our customer resolution team had been awaiting a report from the customer to confirm the faults of the chairs, given the age of the products.

“We have been in contact with the administrator given Harveys is no longer trading, and they agreed we could proceed without a report.”

Douglas said the couple was grateful to Raw Deal for stepping in.
