Cup hurt could be the spur Rangers need

-

Today is the final Old Firm fixture of the season, and it’s the most-important game both sides will play between now and the rest of the campaign.

Rangers want to go through their 38 Premiership games unbeaten, and Celtic, of course, will want to stop them.

Steven Gerrard and his players will also want to reach the 100-point mark.

Up until last weekend, the Gers were unbeaten at home in domestic competition, but St Johnstone put an end to that with their fantastic Scottish Cup tie win.

It was a dramatic evening, and credit to Callum Davidson and his players. Keeper Zander Clark, in particular, was outstanding.

The defeat clearly hurt Rangers, and they will not want to have a similar feeling around 2pm today. They want to be celebrating a victory.

Both teams, I’m sure, will be set up to win.

John Kennedy has yet to beat Rangers in his two attempts as interim-manager. He’ll want it to be third-time lucky.

Scott Brown is also playing in his final Old Firm game.

The Parkhead skipper has had many magical moments in his 14 years in the Hoops, and he’ll be giving it 100% to have one more high at Ibrox before he calls time on his Celtic career.

It has the makings of a really interesting clash. I’ve a feeling it will be pulsating, end-to-end stuff.

It always takes a solid team performance to win any Old Firm game, but it can also require a moment of individual brilliance.

That’s where the likes of Scott Wright might emerge as a hero. He has been impressive in his last two outings for Rangers against St Johnstone.

In the Celtic team, I hope James Forrest is fit and available. He has it in his locker to bring the three points back to Parkhead.

Both teams will be determined to win but I’ve a feeling they will share the points.

Both teams will definitely score. I’m going for 1-1.
