Two-goal Dowell ensures the title for Canaries

-

Norwich recovered from an early setback to secure the Championship crown with a 4-1 win over Reading at Carrow Road.

The Canaries trailed to a 12th-minute goal from Josh Laurent, but were level at the break thanks Kieran Dowell’s opener.

Dowell doubled Norwich’s lead just past the hour mark and further goals from Xavi Quintilla and Teemu Pukki sealed the deal.

As it turned out, Watford’s 2-0 defeat at Brentford, with goals from Marcus Forss and Ivan Toney (penalty), would have handed Norwich the title anyway.

The battle to avoid the drop into League One will go to the final weekend of the season after Derby squandered a 1-0 lead at Swansea to lose 2-1.

And the Rams host Sheffield Wednesday next Saturday, with Wayne Rooney’s side just needing to avoid defeat in order to stay up, unless Rotherham get a positive result against Luton in midweek.

County led through Tom Lawrence’s 48th-minute strike, but two goals in three minutes from Morgan Whittaker and Connor Roberts turned the game on its head.

The Owls had Keiren Westwood to thank for earning a point in a 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest, as he saved Lewis Grabban’s penalty in first-half injury-time.

Lewis Wing kept Rotherham’s hopes alive with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Blackburn after Adam Armstrong’s opener. Remarkably, Wycombe could also stay up after Uche Ikpeazu’s early goal helped them secure a surprise 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

Sub Danny Ward’s late goal ensured another season of Championship football for Huddersfield as they drew 1-1 with Coventry, for whom fellow-sub Jordan Shipley opened the scoring.

On-loan Liverpool forward Harry Wilson scored his first senior hat-trick as Cardiff ended much-changed Birmingham’s unbeaten home record under Lee Bowyer with a 4-0 win at St. Andrew’s.

Sub Mark Harris was also on target.

Billy Mitchell scored his first senior goal for Millwall, who beat Bristol City 4-1.

Jed Wallace, Scott Malone and Tom Bradshaw also scored in the Lions, while Tommy Conway replied.

Osman Kakay scored his first league goal for QPR as they recorded a 2-0 victory at Stoke.

Charlie Austin had grabbed the opener.

Preston beat Barnsley 2-0 to halt the Tykes’ play-off momentum.

Goals from Jordan Storey and Ched Evans sealed victory in the Lilywhites’ last game at Deepdale this term.

Luton made it five games unbeaten with a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough.

Glen Rea gave the hosts a short-lived lead before Duncan Watmore levelled, with James Collins later missing a penalty for the Hatters.
