Solskjaer should take a shifty at Duffy’s busy Sons

Jim Duffy might not have led his team to a Europa League Final.

But the Dumbarton boss says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could learn a thing or two from his part-time Sons, who face Edinburgh City away in the first leg of their League 1 Play-Off Final tomorrow.

Jamie Wilson’s goal helped the Sons clear the first hurdle in their fight against relegation against Stranraer in the semifinal, the latest match in a crowded fixture schedule.

The first leg will be their ninth game since April 15.

Duffy said: “I heard Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying that Manchester United could not cope with four games in nine days.

“He should try being a part-time team, doing it constantly for the last two or three months.

“The resources are stretched for all the clubs, and I have said it before.

“But what the players have put in has been nothing short of outstanding.

“We have six days without a game now, and hopefully it gives us a chance for the players to get their legs back again because it will be two huge games.”

Manager Gary Naysmith, has challenged his City players to create history in the Play-Off Final.

The Citizens were only admitted to the SPFL in 2016, but now have the chance to climb up to the third tier for the first time.

Naysmith’s side saw off Elgin City in the semi-finals, and the former Hearts, Everton and Scotland left-back is determined to guide the team to promotion.

He said: “It’s trying to create history for the club. We’ve given ourselves a chance of being a League One club – but that’s all we’ve done.

“We’ve got a chance but it’s going to be hard work.

“Dumbarton are favourites. They’re in the league above us, but it does not mean that I’m not expecting us to win the game over two legs.

“I have great belief in my players. “I thought if we got through it would be Dumbarton we’d be facing, so it’s a nice challenge.

“There is a freshness. They don’t know us and we don’t know them.

“It’s nice to prepare for a team that you’ve not already played this season.”
