ILAWS are just wonderful. I’m so content my POA is done

If you are organising a Will or Power of Attorney (POA), why not also have one arranged for a spouse or relative at the same time? Margaret, her husband John, 72, and her brother Graham, 71, did exactly this when all three recently had Wills and POA put in place through ILAWS Scotland, after spotting the company on Facebook.

“We phoned them and they sent this really nice lady down, and we put what we wanted in our Wills – and then she asked if we had Power of Attorney,” says Margaret.

They didn’t but ILAWS explained why they were important, and Margaret thought it sounded like a great idea. They started the POA process just before lockdown, but were unable to complete it until a year later as a result of restrictions.

“George from ILAWS kept in touch. He was excellent – he said he would get someone out to us as soon as he could. And he kept his word,” says Margaret. About a year later, a solicitor came to the house to sign and stamp the papers.

While the ILAWS representatives followed strict social distancing measures, including the wearing of face masks, Margaret was impressed by how comfortable they made everyone feel.

“He actually knelt down on the floor in front of my disabled brother, who can’t move very well,” says Margaret. “He was so wonderful. To come into your house and kneel down on the floor in front of him – how good is that?”

Throughout, Margaret was impressed with ILAWS’ approach to handling the process. After all, it’s a legal document and it could be confusing in the wrong hands.

“They’re wonderful, do you know why? Because they’re so ordinary. They’re just so nice and very friendly. I can only say that I think they’re wonderful and they’ve been really good to us,” says Margaret. “You feel so at ease with them, every one of them.”

Before speaking to ILAWS, Margaret wasn’t aware of how important POA was. “I didn’t have a clue. I never even gave it a thought. I just thought of Wills and that was it,” says Margaret. But now having it sorted has given her “great peace of mind” and she would recommend ILAWS to “everybody” thinking of organising POA and Wills: “I’m so happy and so content that it’s all done.”
