War correspondent: Madame Butterfly moves me to tears

-

News anchor Clive Myrie has revealed classical music moves him to tears as he prepares to host this year’s BBC Proms.

The 57-year-old presenter, who is a celebrated war correspondent and the host of Mastermind, said Madam Butterfly is a particular favourite. “I’m in tears whenever I hear it,” Myrie said. “Music has always been a really important part of my life, it has the power to move me deeply.” Myrie, who has been married for 30 years, fearlessly presented the news from Ukraine as the Russians invaded. Among the performers at the BBC Proms will be the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra.

Myrie, who will co-present the Proms with Katie Derham, pictured together, right, said: “It’s a fascinating project put together in the wake of the conflict. It’s made up of musicians who are refugees, many of them soldiers. It will be an emotional moment for the Albert Hall and for people watching. I will think about the people I came to know back there, still having to deal with it all. But also the Russians caught up in it who do not support the endeavour.”
