At long, long last, I’m a football fan

-

“Oof”. A noise I’d heard from hundreds of men’s mouths involuntarily escaped my own when a colleague played me a clip of Ella Toone’s perfectly lobbed goal in the Euros final last Sunday.

I’ve never been that interested in football. Maybe that’s because girls weren’t allowed to play it at my primary school and men’s footie has dominated for as long as I can remember. I’m not about to buy a pair of Adidas Sambas, but for the first time I feel welcomed by a sport that’s always seemed off-limits. It’s a nice feeling.
