Antonio hits the net – and then gets goosebumps

- By Graeme Macpherson SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Antonio Colak savoured his first Rangers goal and said he’s ready to help keep the club’s Champions League dream alive.

The Croatian scored the opener in the 2-0 win over Kilmarnock, with Alfredo Morelos coming off the bench to get the second late in the game.

Colak had been under some pressure after poor performances against Livingston and then Union Saint-Gilloise in midweek but atoned with a clinical finish here.

And now he’s ready to do it again on Tuesday night when Rangers will look to overturn a twogoal deficit to reach the Champions League playoff round.

He said: “I’m really happy, it was an amazing feeling to score here at Ibrox, my first competitive goal.

“It’s not always easy but it is the most important thing for a striker to start as early as possible in the season to score.

“This gives me a lot of confidence and extra push for the upcoming games.

“It’s always giving me goosebumps to score here at Ibrox especially in front of our fans. I just want to have this feeling as often as possible. It gives me a lot of energy, a lot of confidence.

“I’m a striker. I have always scored. It’s not like you forget in one game. It’s all about hard work, about patience, about confidence “Of course, we didn’t have a good game on Tuesday but we know what we can do in front of our fans. We can turn this game around and it’s all on us.

“We have this confidence but we just have to be 100% ready and focused. I think with our crowd we can turn this result into a positive one.”

Morelos’s return after five months out injured will put extra pressure on Colak to stay in the starting line-up but the former Malmo man reckons the pair will be doing all they can to help the team.

He added: “I’m really happy for Alfredo, to come back after this injury, to score is so important for us and the team in general.

“First of all, to be successful we need to have strikers who score. We have a long season, a lot of games. We need everybody. The most important thing is to have a successful team and I’m happy for him to score and I think he is happy for me to score.

“I will give my best and I think it is not about myself, it is about everybody in the team and we will try to give everything on Tuesday to get the result we need.

“I have a lot of confidence and optimism for Tuesday. It’s all about giving everything, scoring goals and turning around the result.”
