Scotland the best
Wonderful watersports
From windsurfing to waterskiing... Splash out this summer and enjoy some water-based activities
Elie
Great beach location in totally charming wee town where there’s enough going on to occupy non-watersporters. Easy lagoon for first-timers and open season for inexperienced users. Windsurfers, kayaks, waterskiing. Also mountain bikes and inflatable “biscuits”.
Port Edgar
South Queensferry. Major marina, watersports centre. Berth your boat, hire dinghies (big range). Big tuition programme for kids and adults, including canoes. Home to Port Edgar Yacht Club.
Loch Insh
On the B970, one mile from Kincraig towards Kingussie and the A9. Marvellous loch site launching from gently sloping dinky beach into the shallow forgiving waters of Loch Insh. Hire of canoes, dinghies, windsurfers and rowing boats. Minibus to Kingussie, row back on the Spey. Archery and mountain biking. An idyllic place to learn anything. Sunset from the balcony restaurant, the Boathouse. Chalets and B&B.
Galloway Activity Centre
Loch Ken, near Castle Douglas. Nine miles north on A713 to Ayr. Dinghies, wind-surfers, canoes, kayaks, tuition, biking. Also the Climbing Tower (so you zip-wire and take that leap of faith). Mountain biking, laser tag and archery. Accommodation in yurts, cabins and a bunkhouse. All this by a serene and forgiving loch by the Galloway Forest.
Loch Morlich
By Glenmore Forest Park, part of the plethora of outdoor activities hereabouts (skiing, walking, etc). This is the loch you see from Cairngorm and just as picturesque from the woody shore. Surprising coral-pink beach! Canoes, kayaks, rowing boats and dinghies with instruction in everything.
