The star of The Queen’s Gambit was just 11 when she first read Emma. She described Austen’s heroine as “living in her own movie”, explaining: “She’s so theatrical. She behaves as if she is the star of her own film, and everything is going to work out the way that she wants it to, which is why it’s so devastating and confusing to her when life has its own plans.”
