£17,500 raised for victim of Skye attack

Thousands of pounds have been raised for the family of the father-of-six who was killed in an alleged shooting on the Isle of Skye.

More than £17,500 had been donated to the crowdfundi­ng campaign last night after an original target of £5,000 to help his family. John MacKinnon died at his home in Teangue on the Isle of Skye on Wednesday. Prayers for the family will also be said in churches across Skye today.

Finlay MacDonald has been charged with the murder of his brotherin-law Mr MacKinnon andthe attempted murders of three other people. Distillery worker Mr MacKinnon, 47, died after an alleged shooting at a property in Teangue on Wednesday morning.

The JustGiving page has been set-up by Free Church Minister Gordon Matheson.

Matheson, the minister for Sleat and Strath Free Church, wrote: “Our desire is to support the family of John MacKinnon, immediatel­y following the tragic events.”

At Inverness Sheriff Court on Friday, MacDonald, 39, appeared in connection with Mr MacKinnon’s death. He faces a charge of murder and two charges of assault to severe injury, danger of life and attempted murder.

He also faces a charge of assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurem­ent and attempted murder. MacDonald made no plea and was remanded.
