FBI seizes top-secret files from Mar-a-Lago
FBI agents raided Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago home to recover topsecret documents amid claims they were looking for papers relating to nuclear weapons.
Elevensetsof classified documents were found in the former president’s Florida residence, according to reports.
Some were reportedly so secret they were only meant to be read in special government facilities.
Trump denied FBI agents were looking for nuclear documents, saying the reports in the Wall Street Journal were a “hoax”.
Later, however, he suggested Barack Obama had kept nuclear files. He wrote Obama “kept 33 million pages of documents, much of them classified. How many of them pertained to nuclear? Word is, lots!”.
Among the classified documents taken from Trump’s home was one set marked only for viewing in specific government sites, four marked top secret, three market secret and three classified.
The inventory also revealed material relating to the President of France was taken, according to reports.
Trump’s lawyers argue he declassified the material before he left office.
The reported discovery came as the US Justice Department asked a judge to make the warrant public.
It was part of a probe into whether Trump illegally removed records from the White House as he left office.
