What’s the story behind The Eiger Sanction? – A Tragedy befell the 1975 thriller starring Clint Eastwood as a veteran assassin in the Alps. On the second day of filming a boulder broke loose, killing climber David Knowles. The movie looked set to be scrapped but Eastwood sent an SOS to Scots mountaineer Hamish MacInnes, who agreed to step in as a climbing double and safety officer and production resumed. Eastwood continued to perform his own stunts despite the risks.
