This is the common-spotted orchid, one of several orchids that grow wild in Scotland. It can often be found in urban areas.

I’ve been given a small olive tree in a pot. Will it survive outdoors? – Belinda Thorn, Cumbernaul­d.

It will be fine outdoors during the summer, but the danger in winter is the combinatio­n of dampness and cold weather, so move it under cover in late autumn.
