We sort three-year dispute over tenants’ energy bills

-

Lynda McNaughton thought she would blow a fuse after a dispute with an energy supplier dragged on for more than three years.

She is owner of a rented property in Alyth, Perthshire, and has had issues with OVO energy atthehomethathave spanned a number of tenancies. She had questioned sky-high bills on behalf of her tenants numerous times but could never get any action from the supplier as she doesn’t actually live there herself.

“I have had very high electric accounts for more than three years,” she said.

“The property has had various tenants so I’m sure they cannot all have been extravagant in their usage.”

McNaughton said that there had also been ongoing confusion over the number of meters at the property, even though she had supplied the serial numbers for them.

“There are three meters in the property but when I call OVO I am told that this can’t be,” she said.

“I have asked for the meters to be removed and replaced with a smart meter and a pay-as-you-go facility.

“I had an appointment arranged for October 2020 but that was cancelled and myself and various tenants have been trying to resolve the problem ever since.”

After we contacted the company, it soon acted.

OVO said its specialist electric heating team had been in touch with the current tenant and was now working with them to resolve the issue.
