His short spell as Dundee United manager went from bad to worse yesterday for Jack Ross.
Dumped spectacularly out of the Europa Conference League by that 7-0 thrashing against AZ Alkmaar, his side lost 3-0 at home to one of his former clubs, St Mirren.
That leaves United with just one point from their opening three Premiership games, with a visit from champions, Celtic next Sunday now looming large.
There had been a player-led, clear-theair meeting amongst the United squad early last week, but it failed to have the desired effect, with the Buddies handing out another embarrassing result for Ross.
After the match, Ross said: “I’ve not
found a solution, and that’s a failing on me as a manager. I need to find them.
“I’m producing a team that has lethargy, and a lack of energy and lack of purpose with or without the ball.
“It hasn’t been strong enough, but the responsibility falls on my shoulders. Right now I’m not getting enough.
“I don’t think all footballers go on to the pitch brimming with confidence. We have stresses, doubts and anxieties.
“But when they come on the pitch, they come to life. However, today there was lethargy and a lack of energy, and I have to try and fix it.”
