Local galleries: Art, enjoyment and inspiration

- PATRICIA-ANN YOUNG

From experimental paintings, fineart photography, and thoughtprovoking sculpture, the artistic output found in Scotland’s independent art galleries and created by our native artists reflects how beautiful and inspirational our lovely country is.

So much so in fact, that the rolling hills and stunning seascapes of Caledonia are the often the muse for much of the art displayed in galleries up and down the country.

It is fitting then that these artworks are what those visiting Scotland and those who live here permanently turn to and buy as a way to take home a small piece of this stunning part of the world.

It is not just art inspired by Scotland that you can expect to find in Scottish galleries, however. The range of paintings, prints, jewellery, porcelain and glass work displayed and sold here is never in short supply, and is always wonderfully innovative and creative. Planning a staycation for summer? Strolling through these caverns of creativity is the perfect way to spend a rainy day (of which we have a few in Scotland), or an ideal spot from which to purchase souvenirs and gifts.

Many rural towns and coastal communities have small galleries on their high street, so paying them a visit will usually fit perfectly in with your daily activities. Summer is a time for fun, colour and growth, and you’ll find the creativity on display

inside Scotland’s bright and beautiful galleries certainly reflects this.

The arts industry here depends heavily on small galleries to promote the work of both new and established artists. Summer 2022 is therefore the perfect time to show your support for the small businesses which work tirelessly to promote our home grown talent, splendour and creativity which Scotland has in abundance.
