Safety fears over rise in candle use
The public have been warned about the risks of switching to candles in a bid to save money during the cost-of-living crisis, amid fears it could trigger a spike in house fires.
Ashley Martin, Public Health Adviser with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, (RoSPA), warned of the risks involved in using candles as a cost-cutting measure.
He said: “We are aware that with rising energy bills people may be tempted to use alternative means, such as candles or other products with naked flames, for heating and lighting over the coming months.
“RoSPA would advise caution and care with naked flames, and consideration of safety at all times.”
