There is no need to shout! Modest star is my kind of role model

Big, empty barrels make the most noise. My dear departed granny there, telling it like it is. I’ve been thinking about her words a lot these days, usually when my son’s favourite YouTubers are blaring out of his iPad.

From what I can gather they are two best pals, based somewhere in the American Midwest, who play computer games all day whilst shouting at their screens and saying “bro” a lot. My son is fierce in his defence of them.

“Do they not have school to go to?” I ask. Apparently not, because what does an education matter when you are already a millionaire, bro? A quick Google search suggests that they are worth upwards of $40 million which is good because I can’t see how else they’d get girlfriends.

Yes, it seems the louder you shout, the more you are rewarded. Trouble is, influencers and YouTubers rarely have anything useful to say. It’s a depressing state of affairs and it worries me that these are today’s role models.

That’s why this week’s big interview with Isis Hainsworth is such a breath of fresh air.The 23-year-old actress has been tipped as “one to watch” by Hollywood bible Variety magazine and has landed a series of starring roles, the latest being in spooky BBC series Red Rose.

Despite all this, during our interview (on pages 6&7), the Edinburgh-born star oozes humility, charm and, well, class. When asked about her success, she tells us: “I do still feel young and slightly ‘Who the hell am I?’ but I’d feel very proud if anyone felt like they could do this job because I’d done it.”

She may not be loud, but I reckon she’s definitely worth listening to.
