Restaurant of the week

The Dormy Gleneagles

-

Location

Inside the famous Gleneagles golf course, The Dormy overlooks King’s and Queen’s courses of the iconic track. A better location and view would be hard to find.

First impressions

The clubhouse restaurant is luxe while comfortable and packed with history of the game of golf, from hosting Open Championships to the Ryder Cup in 2014. The table we are seated at looks straight out to the King’s and Queen’s courses with ubercomfy seats to relax into.

Service

Unbeatable, attentive service is guaranteed at The Dormy. Despite being early, we are shown to our table and the staff are always on hand to deal with our every need.

Menu

The Dormy menu is set up for hungry golfers who have come in from the courses, so you can expect pizza, burgers and a wide variety of curries. But you also have more interesting options like the ultra-tasty fish fry, basically a fish pakora, and the smoked salmon fish cake.

Taste

To start, we had prawn cocktail (fresh prawns with crunchy lettuce and a side of tempura prawns lathered in tasty marie rose sauce), and the fish fry (light, spicy, salty and delicious). For mains we had the fish cake (maybe a little too salty, but tasty) and the Dormy burger (a giant American-style double patty burger which came with French fries).

Ambience

We arrived around 7.30pm and the place was packed. The vibe is more gastro pub than fine dining so the atmosphere was relaxed and casual.

Price

More expensive than your regular gastro pub, with our meal of two mains and two soft drinks and sparkling water costing £92. But it is worth every penny.
