They kept us in the picture throughout

- John and Elspeth Wells

When John and Elspeth Wells bought their home together back in 1959, there was not much available to them in order to protect their new precious asset in case of an emergency.

It was not until recently, when a neighbour told them that he was setting up his own Protected Property Trust (PPT) that they decided to take action to protect the home that they had been living in for almost 60 years.

Mrs Wells said: “We’ve lived in this house from the beginning, ever since it was first built. It isn’t about money, it’s just that now the road has been laid that if we need help, we know we’ll get it. There is much more paperwork to do nowadays. Back then, the house would just go to the person who lived the longest. If someone is buying a house nowadays, they should take the step and make sure they have themselves covered.”

Mr and Mrs Wells contacted ILAWS, who along with their PPT, helped them finalise their wills and to assist them in putting a Power of Attorney in place. It gave the couple great peace of mind to know that if something happened to either of them, their daughter or grandchildren could step in on their behalf and could then act in their best interest.

Mrs Wells said: “If anything happened to us it means that your family can get in and do things for you. Our neighbour said: ‘What if something happened and your daughter was out of the country?’ and so we decided to put our grandchildren on it, too. It keeps everything secure.”

Working with ILAWS was an easy and pleasant process for the Wells. An ILAWS representative came to their home to go over their options and help them make the right decision. Mrs Wells said: “They were very helpful and everything went smoothly. The chap came to the house for the initial meeting. He was very good, and kept us in the picture with how things would go and kept us up to date throughout. It was all cut and dry and organised very well.”
