French police admit defeat in mystery of the Drummond murders

-

“Inspector Edmond Sebeille and his assistants admitted temporary defeat in their month-long efforts to solve the mystery the Drummond murders,” read the paper. “They left for Marseilles, leaving the case in the hands of the local police,” it added.

Sir Jack Cecil Drummond, a renowned biochemist, was murdered, alongside his wife and 10-year-old daughter, in what became known as the Dominici affair, after a peasant farm owner, Gaston Dominici, was found guilty of the crime. The crime, trial and verdict caused huge controversy in France, with many believing Dominici did not receive a fair trial due to his background and class.
