Marr humbled by rampant Accies
Last season’s Premiership champions Marr were brought back down to earth with a resounding thump yesterday afternoon, when they were hammered 53-12 by Edinburgh Accies at Raeburn Place, writes DAVID BARNES.
With almost a third of their squad unavailable for one reason or another, the Troon outfit were only really competitive during the first quarter-of-an-hour, taking the lead through an 11th minute try by centre Conor Bickerstaff.
But they were then blown away by their hosts, with Liam Wells and Rauiri Campbell scoring twice each, while Fraser Lindsay, Robbie Kent, Callum Black and Cole Imre also dotted down, before Nairn Calder claimed a late consolation try for the beaten team.
“We didn’t play with intelligence and didn’t make it difficult for them,” reflected Marr head coach Craig Redpath.
“We just let things happen. But it’s one afternoon so we will digest it and then move on. It is just one game.”
Accies will face a Currie side next week which bounced back from 17-0 down at half-time to register a comfortable 27-53 win over Musselburgh at Stoneyhill yesterday, with winger Kody McGovern the star man with his second hat-trick of tries in as many weeks.
Meanwhile, Hawick beat JedForest 22-12 at Riverside Park, Selkirk edged a 22-15 win over Glasgow Hawks at Philiphaugh and GHA beat Heriot’s 24-48 at Goldenacre.
