Zach Robinson scored a contender for goal of the season as Dundee ruthlessly beat Queen’s Park at Dens.

The 20-year-old striker had already netted from the penalty spot and then doubled his tally with a stunning shot from all of 30 yards.

Sub Zak Rudden sealed the points in the second half with the Dark Blues now up to third in the Championship table.

And Dundee boss Gary Bowyer revealed his assistant, Billy Barr, was about to shout at Robinson not to shoot before his wonder goal.

Bowyer said: “It is always good to win at home in front of your fans.

“It was really pleasing to score three goals and keep a clean sheet so I am delighted.

“I think today you saw the impact of the squad game – it is everybody.

“Billy was just about to shout at Zach before he pulled the trigger as it was such a ridiculous distance.

“I have to say it is a while since I have seen a ball hit so hard and it flew so quickly.

“It is good to have strikers scoring goals with Zak Rudden coming on.”

Dundee’s day was blighted by an injury to Rudden late on, with Bowyer less than pleased with the tackle.

He added: “Hopefully Zak’s knee injury isn’t too bad. I thought it was a bit of a bad challenge from behind. I thought you weren’t allowed to make those challenges any more.”

The first opportunity of the game came in the sixth minute when

Queen’s Park’s Grant Savoury burst down the right before cutting the ball back for skipper Simon Murray but the striker’s shot was blocked by Dundee’s Lee Ashcroft.

Murray had another chance shortly after but his strike from the edge of the home box was easily held by Dark Blues’ keeper Harrison Sharp.

Ben Williamson finally produced Dundee’s first attempt on goal but his angled drive was straight at Spiders keeper Calum Ferrie who made a comfortable save.

Dundee were turning the screw and Lyall Cameron was the next to try his luck but was denied by Ferrie. However, the keeper was helpless to prevent the Dark Blues taking the lead in the 27th minute.

A ball over the top saw Robinson race in goal with the on-loan AFC Wimbledon striker bundled over by Stephen Eze with referee Grant Irvine awarding a penalty and booking the Queen’s defender.

Robinson calmly sent Ferrie the wrong way from the spot.

The Spiders had an chance to equalise but Lee Kilday directed his free header straight at goalie Sharp.

Instead, it was Dundee who extended their lead in the 44th minute. Robinson picked the ball up 30 yards out and let fly with a thunderbolt that flew high past Ferrie and into the back of the net.

The Dark Blues then made it 3-0 in the 70th minute when sub Rudden slammed the ball home from close range.

Spiders boss Owen Coyle said: Coyle said: “It was disappointing in terms of losing the game.

“You will never see another 3-0 game like that where the opposition could have scored six or seven goals in the game.”
