Toney treble is just the tonic for Bees boss Frank

-

Ivan Toney was hailed by Brentford boss Thomas Frank after scoring a hattrick in the Bees’ 5-2 rout of Leeds United.

A penalty, a free-kick and a superb improvised finish took the striker’s tally to 52 in just 96 Bees appearances.

Brentford were full value for their second win of the season, with Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa sending them clear after strikes from Luis Sinisterra and Marc Roca had kept Leeds in the match.

“It’s a nightmare to play against him,” said Frank. “Off the top of my head, looking at strikers on form, Harry Kane is No.1, but there is not a better striker after Kane on form.”

Opposite number Jesse Marsch slammed the match officials, adding: “I’m clearly dissatisfied. I’ve got to figure out how to have discussions with the League or with referees or something to help understand how some decisions get made.”

Bournemouth fought back from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2 at Nottingham Forest.

The Reds led through a Cheikhou Kouyate header and a Brennan Johnson penalty, but Phillip Billing’s cracker reduced the deficit, Dominic Solanke restored parity and sub Jaidon Anthony won it a the death.

Cherries interim boss Gary O’Neil said: “Just delighted for the boys really.

“We asked them at half-time to believe and go again.”

Forest manager Steve Cooper admitted: “I didn’t see the second half coming.”

David Moyes branded VAR official Jarred Gillett unfit for duty after an expletive-laden confrontation with referee Andy Madley following West Ham’s 2-1 loss at Chelsea.

Hammers boss Moyes accused Edouard Mendy of twice faking injury, as his side were denied a draw when Maxwel Cornet’s goal was chalked off after a VAR review.

Michail Antonio’s goal was matched by Ben Chilwell, before Kai Havertz ultimately won the game for the Blues.

On Cornet’s disallowed goal, Moyes raged: “It was a ridiculously bad decision. I’d question VAR today as much as the referee.”

Thomas Tuchel responded: “It’s very clear it’s a foul.”

Daniel Podence’s goal in first-half injury-time secured Wolves a 1-0 win over Southampton at Molineux.

It was their first topflight win in 13 matches, stretching back to April 2 last season and boss Bruno Lage said: “I told the players ‘the best thing the three points can give you is tranquillity to play at our level’.

“They need to be happy with the result.”

In the late game, Erling Haaland scored just the once this time as Manchester City were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at Aston Vila.

The Norwegian’s 50th-minute goal was cancelled out by Leon Bailey.
