Tea At Tiffanys

You know when you get time you go back and watch an old movie and realise it’s even better than you remember?
That happened to me recently with Breakfast At Tiffany’s.The bright lights of New York, the glamorous Holly Golightly, the romance, the comedy...I could watch it all over again.
So when I spot a cafe called Tea At Tiffanys whilst on holiday in North Berwick, I just have to pop in.
With a huge chandelier dangling from the ceiling, and an old gramophone and cash register, it feels like something from the film.
Even though the grey walls add a modern touch, there are little nods to the days gone by, with little models of VW campervans and old bikes lining the windows.
It’s cute and cosy and welcoming, so I decide to have some lunch with my coffee and, of course, see if the chef has any scones in the oven!

There’s plenty to choose from and it’s a hard choice whittling it down but we go for soup and sandwiches and a toastie. The food is fresh, piping hot and every last bite goes down a treat.
But, with my sweet tooth, it’s always dessert I look forward to most.
The cake containers on the counter are filled with all sorts of delights, from homemade lemon cheesecake to cookies.
Of course, it’s a scone for me hands down...a fruit one with jam and butter. My fellow diner gets a chocolate crispy cake which is so big and heavy it looks like it could take a window out!
The scone, served on an old-style, chintzy plate, is homemade and huge. And it tastes delicious. Lovely and moist inside with a crumbly exterior. It’s a shame the jam and butter are pre-packed and not in a little pot on the side, but I’ll let that slide.
I don’t even get to try the crispy cake before it disappears...a sure sign it was delicious.
Aswedustourfull selves down and head out for a sunny day at the seaside, I’m already thinking about coming back for breakfast tomorrow!
