Oscar-winning actress feared meltdown at 50
Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow found turning 40 a struggle but is looking forward to being 50.
The Oscar-winning actress, who will celebrate her 50th this month, admits she was concerned the birthday would trigger a meltdown.
Paltrow, who has two children – Apple, 18, and Moses, 16 – with former husband and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, said: “When I turned 40, it was really hard for me. At that point I was wrestling with what it meant to my life and career to be a woman who was no longer desirable in a way that made me commercial.”
She added: “Things fundamentally change in terms of how society regards you, especially if you’ve been objectified since you were 20, and used to selling stuff with sex and looks. And that was really hard for me.
“And I was getting out of a marriage. And moving to the US. And I was going through a really hard time. And so I thought, I’m definitely going to have a full meltdown when I turn 50. But it’s been great.”
