Lost osprey isrescued
A young Scottish osprey that got lost on its first migration has hitched a lift back to land on the scientific research ship RRS Sir David Attenborough.
The £200m vessel – popularly known as Boaty McBoatface – was conducting science trials in the North Atlantic when the fledgeling touched down on board on Wednesday.
Thought to have been blown off course, the inexperienced bird found the ship sailing west of the remote uninhabited island of Sula Sgeir, 70km north of Lewis.
Only around half of osprey chicks make it through the first two years of their lives due largely to the challenges they face during migration.
