THE BIG QUESTIONS

-

I winced when I “saved” a shot from my son with my tummy as we played football in the garden! Is it legal to wear suit of armour to play? – H

Yes! Well, possibly, as the laws of the game are vague about what can be worn to play, leaving the decision to referees as to players’ attire. In fact, it’s not even compulsory to wear gloves.

So don’t expect to see Craig Gordon take to the field in welders’ gloves the next time he turns out for Scotland.

I can remember the ’70s heyday of wrestling, which was always on our TVs at 4pm on a Saturday, with names like Kendo Nagasaki, Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy. But my favourite was Adrian Street. Can you tell me more about him? – W

The flamboyant Street found fame at the time of Glam Rock, which was reflected in his androgynous persona, although he had been professional since 1957.

He was mainly a heel, a wrestling term for a villain or bad guy, and wrestled in the US, Mexico, Germany and many other countries. He was a two-time World Middleweight Champion, and retired in 2014, after something like 15,000 bouts.

I live in Angus, which I think is Scotland’s most beautiful county, with rolling fields and glens. But how much of it is actually agricultural? – C

Farmland accounts for almost a half (48%) of the land. Exactly half (50%) consists of natural land – the glens and wild areas.

The other 2% is what is described as “green, urban” or “built on”.

The figures for Scotland as a whole are 26.4% farmland, 70.7% natural, 2.1% built on and 0.9% green, natural.
