Forrest leads from the front after Bob paid his respects

Grant Forrest is top of the Scots, heading into the final round of the BMW PGA Championship.

The Craigielaw player ended the day at eightunder and just four behind joint leaders Soren Kjeldsen and Viktor Hovland, albeit with a logjam of players above him.

Forrest shot a 67, helped by a four-four finish at 17 and 18 as he aims for a big finish at this Rolex Series event to move up from his current position of 117th on the Race to Dubai.

He is one stroke clear of David Law, who posted a 70 in near darkness in the final game out.

Scott Jamieson and Richie Ramsay are both at six-under, with Jamieson shooting a second consecutive 69 and Ramsay, the winner of the Cazoo Classic in July, posting a 67, helped largely by eagles at the fourth and the 12th.

Earlier in the day, Wentworth debutant Connor Syme got to experience just what all the fuss is about surrounding one of the premier events on the DP World Tour.

A place in the field has always eluded Syme, but the Drumoig golfer is a man in form with runner-up finishes in two of his last three events.

And he made sure of his place in today’s final round with a birdiebirdie finish as he signed for a 70 to add to his opening 69 and a fiveunder 36-hole score.

“This is my first time here,” he said. “I think I’ve been fifth or sixth reserve a couple of times and another time I just missed out as the leading non-exempt player.

“It’s class. It’s so, so good. It has such a buzz about it. There are so many people out watching – it’s quality!”

As golf took a back seat on Friday, Bob MacIntyre had put the clubs away and soaked in the atmosphere and tributes to The Queen around Windsor Castle.

Along with his parents, MacIntyre experienced how the royal town was reacting to the death of its most famous resident.

And he returned to Wentworth to shoot a tidy 69 to make the cut on the mark as he tries to kick-start his flagging season.

“Windsor was so busy, for obvious reasons,” he said.

“We’re staying there, so we went to the Castle and then went on the Long Walk through the Great Park, which is about five miles.

“My Mum took me and the old boy, who was huffing and puffing up the hill! I had a chilledout day and I didn’t touch a golf club.”

MacIntyre has not found the results he would have wanted in 2022 which have seen him fall outside the world’s top 100, but there were promising signs.

“Up until the 16th where I got a mud ball, that was probably the best I’ve ever hit my irons in my life” admitted the Oban player.

“But I holed absolutely nothing. That is the opposite from the rest of the season where I have putted absolutely beautifully and hit it horrific.

“But there have been signs of progress in the last three weeks and today I just felt so much control until the end.”
