Rally over shooting
A rally was staged yesterday outside New Scotland Yard, the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Service, in protest against racism and police brutality.
The gathering came after the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old unarmed black man, Chris Kaba, by an officer from the Met on September 5.
The police watchdog, the IOPC, is investigating.
Politicians, including Jeremy Corbyn, attended the rally in London.
Kaba died after being shot once by a firearms officer at the Met, who has since been suspended from duty.
The deceased man had been involved in a police chase after the car he was driving was captured on an Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera that had indicated the vehicle was linked to an offence.
The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said the IOPC “must go wherever the evidence takes them”.
A coroner’s inquest is due to open on October 4.
