Helicopter hits village power line

-

More than 1,000 homes in the Aberdeenshire village of Balmedie had their electricity supply cut off yesterday after a helicopter’s antenna hit a power line.

It happened near the Old School Vintage shop in the village.

Earlier in the week, a helicopter began a search for potential deposits of base metals in Aberdeenshire on behalf of Aberdeen Minerals Limited (AML), including in the Balmedie area.

However, it is unknown if it is associated with the power outage.

Drew Craig, AML general manager, said: “Reports that this was a result of the geophysical array colliding with a power line are being investigated by the company and its contractors.”
