Reverend best man weds groom’s sister minutes after first match

-

“Surprise Wedding Of Ex-Paisley Curate,” read the headline.

“Great interest was evinced today in Paisley church circles regarding the unheralded wedding of the Rev SG Lavery, curate at Holy Trinity, Paisley, during 192021. The reverend gentleman had been acting as best man at a friend’s wedding, and the nuptial knot was no sooner tied than he stepped forward to the altar with the groom’s sister, and another ceremony, with the roles reversed, took place. The members of the congregation, who had not been warned of what was to happen, were delighted when the best man in the first wedding had become the bridegroom in the second.”
