A bumper 86% of the electorate turn out on this historic day to vote in Scotland’s independence referendum.
Early the next day, with results in from all 32 council areas, the “No” side won with 2,001,926 votes against 1,617,989 for “Yes”.
Soon after, First Minister Alex Salmond conceded defeat, stating that he accepted “the democratic verdict of the people of Scotland”.
