Aaron makes a big splash at The Lake

-

Aaron Kennedy became the Scottish Junior International Champion following the second leg of the competition at The Lake of Menteith.

He was well-placed after the first outing at Harelaw, but still had work to do.

All of the children fished with great skill and enthusiasm, but Aaron came through the pack to lift the trophy and claim the title.

The Scotland team will now practice hard before heading down to Wales to compete against the other home nations.

A lot of fish were caught on a Tequila Fab at both venues.

To tie it, use a Kamasan B175 size 10 hook, and the thread is Textreme Standard Fluo Hot Orange. The tail is 6mm Yellow Foam, the body rear Gel Core Fluorescent Yellow, and the body front Gel Core Fluorescent Orange.

The fly can be fished singly, or on the tail using the Washing Line Method.

Harelaw Trout Fishery near Neilston has fished steadily from boat and bank.

Gregor Fleming and Joseph Wood had an exceptional day, netting 52 fish, while Andy Anderson had 26.

The Scottish Youth Fundraiser saw 93 fish returned, with Darren McPherson winning with 10 fish, while Maisie May returned a rainbow estimated at 9lb.

The Shooters Hut area, and The Windmill Shore have been the real hot-spots. The best flies have been Tequila Fabs, Crunchers, Snakes, Hoppers, and Daddies.

At the Waterfront Fishery near Ayr, the cooler water has helped the fishing no end.

Robert Murray and Jimmy Riddicks hooked 13 apiece, while Dylan Lennon returned 39 over four visits. Successful patterns included Suspender Buzzers, CDCs, Daddies and Hoppers.
