Celtic beat Rangers 3-1 in a First Division match played at Hampden Park due to safety work taking place on the Main Stand at Parkhead.

Scorers for the Hoops were Kenny Dalglish, Jimmy Johnstone and Lou Macari. John Greig got Rangers’ late consolation.

Berwick Rangers’ playermanager, Harry Melrose (above), was sent off after 10 minutes for retaliation during his side’s 2-0 defeat by Stirling Albion.

In England, the Division Four match between Exeter City and Stockport County was delayed after the referee collapsed. He later died.
