Proud that Scots did the Queen proud
I very much enjoyed your picture special remembering the Queen’s last journey through Scotland (Sunday Post, last week) and I’ve even put it away to look back on in years to come.
It was all very moving, I thought, and whatever your views on the monarchy, the Queen obviously loved Scotland and we did her proud. From the people in the streets to the service at St Giles’, it seemed a very fitting and, as you called it, the fondest farewell. Sandra Murchie, Glasgow
Oor special tribute
Like many of your readers I suspect, I have been somewhat surprised by how affected I have been by the death of the Queen. As others have said, it’s only when something or someone has gone that you really appreciate its or their importance.
So it has been with the Queen’s passing. Yet it was only when I read the Oor Wullie and The Broons tributes on Sunday that the first tears came to the corners of my eyes. Please thank Mike Donaldson, and anyone else concerned, for today’s highly appropriate, yet unexpectedly moving, comics section.

Having read Oor Willie and the Broons for as long as I can remember and more recently P C Murdoch and wee Harry cartoons, many times have they made me laugh, never before have they brought tears to my eyes. They did on Sunday. All I can say is Sunday Post and Mike Donaldson thank you. Thank you

NHS emergency
As the Queen was being laid to rest, it was a matter of great concern that you were forced to highlight the chronic staff shortages at Scotland’s flagship hospital bearing her name (Sunday Post, last week).
For one nurse to be responsible for 30 patients, a statistic no doubt applicable to some other hospitals in Scotland, is a sign of a care system at breaking point after years of underfunding, understaffing and over-burdening bureaucracy.
Our health service, more needed now than ever due to an ageing population and growing treatment demands, has been sidelined for years by a government more intent on pursuing other priorities. Before irreparable damage is done, the Scottish government needs to restore this great institution and its people to its rightful place as one of world’s best health-providing facilities.

Faced with criticism, Nicola Sturgeon repeatedly claims that the performance of NHS Scotland is better when compared with other parts of the UK, especially In England. This is irrelevant to people who depend on NHS Scotland. David Robertson, by email
Disney do it for me
Rona Dougall is right to say that mermaids are fictional, and it is therefore silly to object to a black woman starring in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid (September 18). But I do wish the House of Mouse would give us new films rather than rehashing past blockbusters.
