CLYDE 1 Grant (90) CAERNARFON TOWN 0

-

Raymond Grant’s last-gasp goal earned Clyde a place in the last-16 of the SPFL Trust Trophy after an encounter that failed to spark into life.

Backed by more than 200 travelling fans, the Welsh Premier League side were determined to fare better than their counterparts The New Saints, who were thumped 3-0 by Dundee on Friday evening.

Despite their supporters creating plenty of noise in the South Lanarkshire sunshine, the quality on the park was lacking during a lacklustre first-half in which neither keeper was forced into a save of note.

Ross Lyon demonstrated a neat touch before driving forward and powering a shot over the bar as the hosts looked a bit brighter following the restart.

The scoreline was perfectly reflecting the narrative of the game, with chances few and far between.

Clyde captain Brian McLean came agonisingly close to connecting with Ross Cunningham’s tantalising delivery and at the other end Daniel Gosset sent an effort over the top.

Cunningham’s fizzing free kick crept wide of the post as the Bully Wee had their best effort of the game, before the winning goal arrived just when it seemed like both sides had settled for penalties.

Grant floated a cross over the head of Josh Tibbetts in the visitors’ goal and the ball somehow found the net after striking the inside of the back-post.
