Moors murders search: No human remains found
Police searching for Moors murders victim Keith Bennett yesterday said no human remains have been found after reports suggested a skull had been uncovered.
The 12-year-old was one of five victims of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, with three bodies later found buried on Saddleworth Moor. But the schoolboy’s body was never found following his disappearance in 1964.
On Friday, author Russell Edwards, who has spent years looking for the boy, said he had found, what he believed might be, the youngster’s makeshift grave following soil analysis which indicated the presence of human remains.
But yesterday Greater Manchester Police said nothing had been found to confirm his theory. Senior investigating officer Cheryl Hughes said that police had resumed searches after receiving information. “This information included photographs of the site and show what experts working with the informant have interpreted as a human jaw bone.
“No physical evidence of a jaw bone or skull has been examined.
“We have not found any identifiable human remains but our work to excavate the site is continuing.”
Hindley died in jail in 2002, aged 60, and Brady, who came from Glasgow, died in a high-security hospital in 2017, aged 79.
