The Sunday Post (Newcastle)

Restaurant of the week

The Lowland, Lynnhurst Hotel

-

Park Road, Johnstone Location

Tucked away in a residential street in a quiet town, this little gem hidden away from the hustle and bustle of city life is certainly one worth finding.

First impressions

Arriving at the gorgeous baronial mansion, we already know this is going to be a luxurious and relaxed experience. Inside, modern decor ticks all the boxes for a great dining experience.

Service

We’re seated by a lovely smiling waitress who talks us through the menu. Food arrives piping hot and nothing seems to be a problem – even keeping dinner warm while I take the little ones to the toilet.

Menu

The menu is pretty concise, which makes choosing a dish a little easier. There are classic mains such as steak pie, macaroni, and fish and chips, as well as salads, burgers and grills.

Taste

We plump for the chargrilled lemon and honey chicken, served with rice and paprika cream, and the Gressingham duck breast, with Stornoway black pudding, vegetables and fondant potato. Every mouthful of both courses is devoured in satisfied silence. The small diners have great fun designing their own pizzas. For dessert, chocolate cremeux and ice cream to share. Heaven.

Ambience

The restaurant is quick to fill up for a Sunday dinner service but in spite of the busy staff we felt relaxed.

Price

Pretty reasonable at just shy of £80 for four including coffee and a glass of wine.
