In the 1820s, a group of allfemale warriors called the Agojie protects the African kingdom of Dahomey with skills and fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen. Faced with a new threat, General Nanisca (Viola Davis) trains the next generation to fight against a foreign enemy determined to destroy their way of life.

This is a passion project for Lights Out actor Maria Bello, who conceived the idea after visiting Benin, where the kingdom used to be located, in 2015 and learning of the unit’s history.
