First of Many for Rivers?

- By Reg Moore sport@sundaypost.com

There was more than a hint of promise in Many Rivers’ debut at Newbury three weeks ago and the pay off could come today.

Sylvester Kirk’s filly lines up in Goodwood’s two-year-old dash after being fourth to Lajooje, beaten just one-and-three-quarter lengths.

There is sure to be more to come and there will need to be, for Richard Hannon’s Swift Asset is rated 93, so it’s a decent affair.

Mick Channon runs a slimmer operation these days but he is still sending out winners from his famous West Ilsley yard.

His Rathgar takes a significant drop in grade from Class 2 to Class 4, in the two-year-old novice over nine furlongs.

He stayed the trip well when third to Galactic Jack at Newbury, after dwelling at the start did not help his cause.

Charlie Hills has had a great season with Saratoga Gold but maybe the handicapper has him in his grip after a hat-trick.

It may have been the deep ground at Hamilton that stopped Pride Of Priory rattling up a four-timer and it’s a drier surface today.
