If you were a castaway on Desert Island Discs, which songs or books would you save?

War And Peace for the amount of paper in it, and the Engelbert Humperdinck song Please Release Me to help with the aftermath of a coconut-only diet…! Cameron Ewan

The Encyclopaedia Britannica would last for years, and Flower Of Scotland by The Corries would remind me of home. James Walker

The Godfather, above, would be my book. If had to pick one song I think it would be Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen.

Donnie Arthur

Sebastian Faulks’ Birdsong would be my book, and The Doors’ Touch Me is my song. Outstanding art from the author and band. Birdsong is a classic.

Jim Malone

Delia Smith’s Cookery Course as I have read it again and again since the mid ’70s. ELO’s Mr Blue Sky, as it brings back great memories of living in the United Arab Emirates in the ’70s and ’80s.!

Judi Martin

The song is easy, I’d choose (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, from Dirty Dancing. Not only because the film elicits many happy memories but also because my husband and I danced to it on an anniversary, even having a go at the lift!

Lorna Smith
