I like reviewing quality gear from a Scottish firm, and this has been my go-to mid-layer on recent hills.

It’s water-resistant, so fine for showers – but, if anticipati­ng a drenching, you need a waterproof.

Great on breezy summer summits over a base layer. Long sleeves, so fingers can be cosily tucked away. Four decent external pockets on hip and chest. Hood rolls up and helps keep your neck warm. I didn’t like the toggles for adjusting the hood – they’re very small and fiddly, not easy with gloved or cold hands.

I know at least one mountain rescue team that has this in its kit.
