Spies’ secret radio station uncovered

-

It reads like a movie script but The Sunday Post reported on the discovery of a deployment of Nazis intent on setting up a secret radio station on the Greenland coast.

Indeed the Allies did make a propaganda film reel of soldiers marching through the snow and ice to capture the enemy.

“US Navy authorities announce that a Nazi radio station has been discovered on the Greenland coast,” it read.

“Statement of the Navy Department said: ‘While on its regular patrol in Greenland Waters during September, a US Navy vessel encountered and inspected a small Norwegian steamer of about 60 tons.

“The company of about 20 had been despatched to Greenland under the auspices of the Nazi authorities in Norway to establish a radio station.

“From there weather reports and other military information were to be sent to the German authorities. Among the personnel was an agent of the Gestapo.’”
